In a news report coming out of Por Esto, http://www.poresto.net/quintana-roo/cozumel/30157-quieren-vender-la-arena-a-miami a local newspaper in Quintana Roo Mexico, and based on reports from television news broadcasts, regarding the much discussed and debated Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel Beach Restoration Project, comes news of a deal that would increase the amount of sand to be extracted from the off shore banks of Northern Isla Cozumel.
The report claims that instead of the advertised 7 million cubic meters of sand to be extracted off Cozumel there would be 10 million cubic meters extracted. Of which, 3 million cubic meters “may” be sold to the U.S., City of Miami, Florida.
The restoration project sand bank location off Cozumel has been a point of major debate by the citizens of Cozumel and their government. This news, if true, will only serve to increase the debate and local protests…
